dd_launcher ("the app") is an Android home screen app made by ldnddev, LLC. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and where that data goes.

Summary

  • No accounts, ads, analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs.
  • We (ldnddev, LLC) do not receive any data from the app. We run no servers for it.
  • Everything you create or configure (notes, to-dos, themes, renamed or hidden apps, layout and settings) is stored only on your device. It is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so it won't move to a new phone (themes can be exported as files).
  • The only network access is the optional weather widget, which talks to the third-party service Open-Meteo. It is off by default.

What the app accesses and why

Installed apps

To list and launch your apps, the app asks Android for apps that have a launcher entry, and for installed icon packs. It uses Android's package-visibility <queries> mechanism for this, not the broad "query all packages" permission. App names, launch counts and last-launch times (used to rank search results) stay on your device.

Calendar (READ_CALENDAR), optional

The calendar widget is on the panel by default, but it shows only a "grant calendar access" button until you choose to grant access; the app asks for the permission only when you tap it. Once granted, the app reads today's events and the next 7 days (up to 6 events: title, time, calendar color) to display them. Calendar data is read only when shown. It is not stored by the app and never leaves your device.

Location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION), optional

Requested only for two opt-in features, and only while the app is in use (never in the background):

  • Weather, "use my location" mode: approximate location is used to get a local forecast. Before anything leaves the device, coordinates are rounded to 2 decimal places (about 1 km) before they are sent or stored. The rounded location is kept on your device to avoid repeated lookups, and is deleted when you remove the weather widget.
  • System widget, "show Wi-Fi name": since Android 8.1, the system only gives apps the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) if they hold location permission. This is the only reason the app requests precise location. The app doesn't read or use your location for this feature; the Wi-Fi name is displayed and never stored or sent. (If you've granted precise location for this and also use weather in location mode, the weather location is still rounded to about 1 km before it's stored or sent.)

Network state (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE)

Used to show connection type and Wi-Fi signal in the system widget, on the device only.

Internet (INTERNET), weather only

Used only by the optional weather widget, over HTTPS:

  • api.open-meteo.com: forecast request with rounded latitude/longitude and your unit preference.
  • geocoding-api.open-meteo.com: only if you choose "city" mode, to look up the city name you typed.

Like any internet request, these reveal your device's IP address and a standard Android HTTP user-agent to Open-Meteo. Open-Meteo is an independent service, and its own terms apply (see https://open-meteo.com/en/terms). No other part of the app uses the network.

The last forecast is stored on your device. It is fetched again only when you open the panel and the stored forecast is more than 30 minutes old, or when you change the weather settings. There is no background refresh. Removing the weather widget deletes the stored forecast and location.

Widgets from other apps

If you add another app's widget to the panel, Android asks you to allow it, and that widget is shown by the other app. Its data handling is governed by that app's privacy policy.

Theme import and export

Import and export use Android's file picker. The app only reads or writes the specific file you choose.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell data or share it with anyone. The only data that leaves your device is the optional weather request described above, sent directly from your device to Open-Meteo when you use that feature.

Retention and deletion

All app data lives on your device. You can delete it by:

  • removing a widget, which clears its data (for example, removing weather deletes the stored location and forecast),
  • clearing the app's storage in Android Settings, or
  • uninstalling the app.

We hold no copy, so there's nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children

The app isn't directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Security

Weather requests use HTTPS. The app holds no account credentials.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and publish the new version at the same address.
